Automatic Badge Reader Configuration
Supported in MAM 7.4 and later.
Configure badge readers connected to Launchpads based on the settings defined in the EAM computer policy.
-
For organizations upgrading to 7.4 and later, the setting is OFF by default.
This represents current behavior, where administrators must plug the reader into an EAM workstation to receive the EAM configuration, and then plug it back into the Launchpad.
-
For new deployments, it is recommended that you switch the Automatic Badge Reader Configuration setting to ON at the organization level. See Requirements.
Launchpads must be restarted for the setting to take effect. After the restart, administrators can manage badge reader configuration in the computer policy from the Imprivata Admin Console, not from the MAM console.
Requirements
-
Your organization is enabled for Check Out.
-
Your organization is integrated with Imprivata Enterprise Access Management as the identity provider.
-
Ensure all Launchpads have the proper badge reader settings defined in the EAM computer policy before enabling the Automatic Badge Reader Configuration setting for the organization.
-
Launchpads running 7.4 or later.
-
Supported reader model: rf IDEAS IMP-82
Considerations
-
Enabling the Automatic Badge Reader Configuration setting will overwrite the badge reader configuration, regardless of the badge reader being configured previously.
Configure Launchpads at an Organization Level
To configure all Launchpads in your organization to allow automatic badge reader configuration:
-
Ensure all Launchpads have the proper badge reader settings in the EAM computer policy.
-
In the MAM console, go to Admin > Launchpads.
-
Switch the Automatic Badge Reader Configuration setting to ON.
-
You are prompted to restart your Launchpads, which is required for the changes to take effect.
Configure a Single Launchpad
Optionally, configure the badge reader behavior for a single Launchpad. This setting overrides the settings in Admin > Launchpads for the selected Launchpad.
To configure the automatic badge reader setting for a single Launchpad:
-
Go to the main Launchpads tab.
-
Click to select a Launchpad.
-
In Launchpad Actions, select Options...
-
Switch the Automatic Badge Reader Configuration setting to ON.
-
You are prompted to restart your Launchpad, which is required for the changes to take effect.
Restore the Badge Reader Configuration
When you enable the feature, the Launchpad creates a text file (original_card_reader_config.txt) in the Asset cache of the Launchpad. This file is intended to record the initial state of the badge reader, allowing the ability to roll back to the state before you enabled the feature.
To restore the state of the badge reader to before the feature was enabled:
-
Open the Asset cache of the Launchpad, then open the
original_card_reader_config.txtfile. -
Copy the entire contents of the text file.
-
In the MAM console, go to the Launchpad > Launchpad Actions > Options.
-
Paste the contents of the text file into the Launchpad Custom Options box, then click Save.
-
Restart the Launchpad when prompted.
If, in the future, you reset the Launchpad, the
original_card_reader_config.txtis removed from the Asset cache of the Launchpad.
